主持人Kate Arnell帮我们get our heads round their often confusing dating terminology.

  Fit

If you think someone is hot or good-looking, you can say that they are fit. Whether or not they are actually in good physical shape, it doesn’t really come into it. It simply boils down to finding them attractive.

  【come into something】

To be important in a particular situation, for example:

I've worked very hard to pass this exam—luck doesn't come into it.

  【boil down to something】

(Of a situation, problem, etc.) to have something as a main or basic part, for example:

In the end, what it all boils down to is money, or the lack of it.

  Buff

Buff is a word that has the same meaning as fit. The American equivalent would be to call someone a hottie.

牛津高阶上对buff的解释是physically fit and attractive with big muscles。

  Bang tidy

Another more recent phrase that’s becoming more and more popular is bang tidy, which has been popularized by the British fictional comedy character Keith Lemon. And it’s usually specific to hot females.

  Fancy

Fancy is generally applied to swanky hotels. But over here to fancy someone means to be attracted to them. During the 16th century the word fantasy started to take on the meaning of desire, and was shortened to fancy. So if you desire someone, you would say you fancy them.
