用对这几个小学词汇,口语水平直接up好几个level

  平时看我们口语水平的高低,拼的并不总是词汇量,如果能把高频简单的小词用的地道,效果要比狂拽生僻词好上一万倍!我们听native speaker讲话,他们很喜欢用小词组成的短语来恰到好处的表达,这些不超纲的词汇可以帮助我们瞬间提升口语水平,还不赶快掏出小本本记笔记啦!

  1. get caught up in something / caught up with something

  Deeply involved with something; participating actively or closely in something.

  沉迷于某事,专注于某事,例如:

  Wallace is caught up in his work and has little time for his son, Buxton.

  He is so caught up with the video game that he didn’t notice she started to get upset.

  2. draw the line (at something / at doing something)

  To refuse to do something; to set a limit.

  底线,能够容忍的限度,例如:

  That’s where I draw the line.

  I don’t mind helping, but I draw the line at doing everything myself.

  We would have liked to invite all our relatives, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

  3. be cut out to be something / be cut out for something

  To have the qualities and abilities needed for something; to be well-suited for a certain position or role.

  有做某事的能力和品质,有能力胜任,例如:

  He’s not cut out for teaching.

  He’s not cut out to be a teacher.

  I thought I was cut out to be an actor, but I’m starting to think I don’t have what it takes.

  4. be on the lookout for (somebody / something) / keep a lookout for (somebody / something)

  To watch carefully for somebody / something in order to avoid danger, etc. or in order to find something you want.

  密切注意,留心观察,仔细寻找,例如:

  The public should be on the lookout for symptoms of the disease.

  I’m always on the lookout for new talent.

  5. out of hand

  Difficult or impossible to control.

  失控,情况或局势难以控制,例如:

  Unemployment is getting out of hand.

  The situation definitely got out of hand after a few fans started throwing snowballs.

  The real estate market in this city is totally out of hand!

  注意,如果说something is out of your hands, 则表示something is no longer your responsibility. 例如:I’m afraid the matter is now out of my hands.

  6. run before you can walk

  To do things that are difficult, without learning the basic skills first; to try to do something which is very difficult or advanced before you have made sure that you can successfully achieve something simpler.

  好高骛远,还没学会走就想着跑,例如:

  I think you need to learn how to balance on that skateboard before you start trying tricks. Don’t try to run before you can walk.

  The important thing about cooking is not to try and run before you can walk. Get the basics right and the rest will follow.

  7. have (got) to hand it to somebody

  To say that somebody deserves praise for something; to give credit or recognition to someone for something they have done.

  用来赞扬某人,“这可得夸夸你,可真有你的!”,例如:

  You’ve got to hand it to her—she’s a great cook.

  I’ve got to hand it to you, the company has really turned a corner since you started managing the accounts.

  Still, you have to hand it to Jenny—she sure knows how to throw a party.

  8. back out (of something)

  To decide that you are no longer going to take part in something that has been agreed.

  反悔,例如:

  He lost confidence and backed out of the deal at the last minute.

  John was so nervous that he decided to back out of the marriage on the morning of his wedding.

  9. make the best of something / it (make the best of things / make the best of a bad job)

  To accept a bad or difficult situation and do as well as you can.

  利用仅有的资源努力做好,接受不利条件做到最好,例如:

  I know this data entry job isn't what you wanted for a career, but for the time being try and make the best of it.

  We weren’t expecting to have to share our timeshare with others, but there’s nothing we can do about it now, so we’d better make the best of a bad situation.

  10. get back to somebody

  To speak or write to somebody again later, especially in order to give a reply; to communicate with someone at a later time or date.

  稍后回复,稍后联系,例如:

  I’ll find out and get back to you.

  Tell Jill that I’ll get back to her about that business proposal after the weekend.

  I’ll have to get back to you later, I’m just on my way out the door.
