　　In Western astrology, there are 12 astrological signs; and in Chinese astrology, there are 12 zodiac animals. They are mouse, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. In Chinese culture, it is believed that people share some common characteristics with the zodiac of the year when they were born. For example, people who were born in the Year of the Dragon are considered lucky, and people born in the Year of the Pig are materially rich.

　　西方有十二星座，中国有十二生肖，鼠牛虎兔龙蛇马羊猴鸡狗猪。在中国文化里，生肖和性格命运有着密不可分的联系。例如，龙年出生的人被认为是幸运儿，而猪年出生的人被认为有财运。

　　Feb 8, 2016 marks the start of the Year of the Monkey. And people born in the Year of the Monkey are often believed to be smart, flexible and ambitious, and can adapt to the changing environment quickly.

　　2016年2月8日开始的农历新年是猴年，通常认为猴年出生的人聪明、灵活、有野心，能够随机应变。

　　Born in 1452 in Italy, Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest painters in the world and is well known in China. Most of the Chinese people born in the 1980s know him from an article called Painting Eggs in a Chinese elementary school textbook. His Mona Lisa became a muse to Chinese artists and there is a popular Chinese song called The Tears of Mona Lisa.

　　达芬奇，1452年出生于意大利，是世界上最伟大的画家之一。许多80后中国人是从小学教科书中的课文《画鸡蛋》知道这名画家的。他的名作《蒙娜丽莎》是中国艺术家的灵感源泉，中国还有一首流行歌曲叫《蒙娜丽莎的眼泪》。

　　Charles Dickens was born in 1812 in Britain. He is the author of some of the best-known novels and short stories around the world. His masterpieces are always on recommended book lists for both young children and adults in China.

　　查尔斯·狄更斯1812年出生于英国。他创作了许多享誉世界的小说和短篇故事。他的代表作是中国儿童和成人的必读书目。

　　Oskar Schindler 奥斯卡·辛德勒

　　Without the 1993 film Schindler's List, Oskar Schindler might be still obscure. Born in 1908 in Germany, Schindler saved 1,200 Jewish people during the Holocaust in spite of his Nazi Party membership.

　　如果没有1993年电影《辛德勒的名单》，奥斯卡·辛德勒恐怕永远不会为世人所知。辛德勒1908年出生于德国，尽管身为纳粹党员，他却在纳粹大屠杀期间挽救了1200名犹太人的生命。

　　Elizabeth Taylor 伊丽莎白·泰勒

　　Taylor was the goddess-like movie star born in 1932 in London. Her deep blue eyes were always a strong feature on her face. She played many classic roles in Hollywood films in the 1950s. In Cleopatra (1963), she created an unforgettable image of the last pharaoh of Ptolemaic Egypt.

　　泰勒1932年出生于伦敦，是女神级的电影明星。她深蓝色的一对明眸让她的脸庞熠熠生辉。她曾在20世纪50年代的好莱坞电影中扮演过许多经典角色。1963年电影《埃及艳后》中，她塑造的埃及最后一位女王的形象令人难以忘怀。

　　Celine Dion became a household name in China due to her huge hit, My Heart Will Go On, from the hit film, Titanic. The song even has a Chinese version and enjoyed great popularity along with the 1997 film in China. Dion, born in 1968, is a gifted Canadian singer with a five-octave vocal range. Her voice can let the toughness and softness echo in harmony. She performed in the annual CCTV Spring Festival Gala in 2013 for the Year of the Snake.

　　席琳·迪翁在中国家喻户晓是因为她的那首《我心永恒》(1997年电影《泰坦尼克号》主题曲)。这首歌的中文版在当时也曾红遍中国大江南北。1968年出生的加拿大歌手迪翁天赋异禀，拥有五个八度音域。她的声音能将粗犷和柔美同时和谐地呈现出来。2013年蛇年春晚她曾作为嘉宾前来演出。

　　Michelle Kwan was born in 1980 in the US. As a two-time Olympic medalist and five-time World Champion, Kwan is an accomplished figure skater among her peers. Her parents are Hong Kong immigrants. Kwan began serious skating training when she was 8 years old.

　　关颖珊1980年出生于美国，是一名出色的花样滑冰选手。曾两度获得奥运会奖牌，五次获得世界冠军。她的父母是香港移民。关颖珊从8岁起就开始进行专业的滑冰训练。

　　He Long 贺龙

　　As a household military leader in China, He Long was born in 1896 in Hunan province. He planned and led the famous Nanchang Uprising on Aug 1, 1927, which later became the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

　　贺龙是中国家喻户晓的军事家，1896年出生于湖南。1927年8月1日他发动和领导了著名的南昌起义，后来8月1日这一天就被定为中国人民解放军建军纪念日。

　　Leslie Cheung 张国荣

　　His fans call him "elder brother". Leslie Cheung was one of the most memorable film stars and singers. Born in 1956, he committed suicide in 2003 when he was only 46 years old. One of the most successful roles he played was Cheng Dieyi in the movie, Farewell, My Concubine. Zhang possessed a pair of big and sad eyes, which lended him support to present the sad inner world of the characters he played.

　　他的粉丝叫他“哥哥”。张国荣是最令人难忘的电影明星和歌手之一。出生于1956年的他在2003年自杀，享年46岁。他扮演过的最成功的角色是电影《霸王别姬》中的程蝶衣。他那双忧伤的大眼睛，将角色悲怆的内心世界有力地呈现了出来。

　　Yao Ming 姚明

　　Yao Ming was born in 1980, the Year of the Monkey in Shanghai. He has had such a successful career that the documentary film, The Year of the Yao, records his time in the NBA. Under Yao's leadership, the Chinese national team won the 2001 FIBA Asian Championship, the 2003 FIBA Asian Championship, and the 2005 FIBA Asian Championship. Yao Ming always carries himself with a relaxed air and a constant smile. He is the pride of China forever.

　　姚明1980年出生于上海。他的职业生涯非常成功，甚至有纪录片《姚明年》记述了他在NBA的辉煌时代。在姚明的带领下，中国国家队获得了2001年、2003年和2005年亚锦赛的冠军。姚明永远是那副气定神闲的模样，脸上总是挂着笑容。他是中国永远的骄傲。
