Wealthy Chinese have come under public pressure to be morecharitable after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg decided todonate the majority of his wealth to philanthropic causes.

　　Chinese people have showered Zuckerberg with praise after the31-year-old magnate announced Tuesday following the birth ofthe couple’s daughter that he would donate 99 percent of his Facebook shares to the ChanZuckerberg Initiative, currently worth about $45 billion.

　　Public pressure on China’s rich has grown in recent years, especially after major disasters.

　　At a speech at Peking University in September, Ma fleshed out the reasons why he was notdonating most of his money like some Western philanthropists.

Philanthropy is everyone’s responsibility," SongHouliang, chief editor of the Beijing-based magazine China Philanthropist told the Global TimesWednesday. The magazine focuses on charitable acts by Chinese entrepreneurs.

　　Based on a report published on January 6 by Beijing Normal University’s China PhilanthropyResearch Institute, donations from the country’s top 100 philanthropists more than doubled in2014 to 30.4 billion yuan ($4.8 billion) compared to the figure for 2013.

　　根据北京师范大学中国公益研究院1月6日发表的一份报告显示，来自中国前100大慈善家的捐款在2014年达到三百零四亿元(四十八亿美元)，是2013的一倍以上。

　　Mao Shoulong, a professor of public administration at the Renmin University of China, said thatit’s unfair to draw comparisons between Chinese and American philanthropists, since philanthropyhas been thriving in the US for more than a century, while it is relatively new in China.

　　中国人民大学公共管理学院教授毛寿龙表示，中国和美国慈善家之间的比较是不公平的，因为慈善事业在美国已蓬勃发展超过一个世纪，而这在中国是比较新潮的。

　　"Chinese entrepreneurs haven’t been rich for that long. It might be unacceptable for them todonate most of their wealth which they worked hard for, but their concept will change with time,"Mao said.

　　“中国企业家没有那么长的富裕时间。对他们来说，把自己辛苦挣得的钱捐出大部分去也许是不可接受的，但是他们的观念会随着时间的变化而改变，“毛说。

　　There is a lack of adequate supporting infrastructure, legal systems and human resources whichhinder Chinese entrepreneurs from being more philanthropic, Mao said.

　　基础设施，法律制度和人力资源匮乏，将阻碍更多的中国企业家成为慈善家，毛说。
