1. Apple of Sodom

　　所得玛的苹果

　　含义：

　　华而不实的东西，徒有其表的东西。

　　原文：Sodom was the city destroyed by God for people there were sinful. After the big fire that had destroyed everything, there appeared many trees on this land, which yielded pretty fruit called apple of Sodom.( Genesis19)

　　所得玛城人民罪恶深重，遭到上帝惩罚，整座城市毁于一旦。大火过后，出现了许多果树，果实外表可爱，称作“所得玛的苹果”。(《创世纪19》)

　　典故：

　　据《圣经·旧约·创世纪》第19章记载：所得玛是古代死海岸边一座臭名昭著的城市，那里的居民骄奢淫欲、罪孽滔天。因此，上帝耶和华降硫磺和火把，将城市化为灰烬。此后，死海一带产出一种苹果，外表鲜艳可爱，食之则满口灰味儿，可观不可食。人们把这种苹果称为“所得玛的苹果”，形容华而不实的东西，败絮其中的事物。

　　亚当的苹果

　　含义：

　　男人的喉结。

　　原文：According to the Bible, Eve and Adam ate the apple and a piece of forbidden fruit was embedded in Adam's throat. Since then, there has been a protruding part in men's throat, called Adam’s apple. (Bible, Old Testament, Genesis 2)

　　据记载，夏娃和亚当偷吃禁果，并且有块禁果卡在了亚当的喉咙，不上不下，留下个结块，就叫亚当的苹果。《圣经·旧约·创世纪2》

　　典故：

　　据《圣经·旧约·创世纪》第2章记载，上帝造人之初，亚当和夏娃无忧无虑地生活在伊甸园里。园里有棵树，结着许多令人垂涎欲滴的果子——苹果。上帝告诫两人不要偷吃果实，但是他们听信了蛇的谗言，偷吃了禁果。正当他们享受苹果的美味时，被上帝发现了。惊慌失措中，亚当将苹果核卡在喉咙里，留下个结块。作为惩罚，上帝就让这个果核永远留在他的喉咙里，成为男性的喉结。
