　　1.expensive 可以指昂贵的;花钱多的;价格高的(costing a lot of money) ，通常指物美价高，超出消费者的购买力;

　　That’s a beautiful skirt, but it’s too expensive for me.

　　那是件漂亮的裙子，但对我来说太贵了。

　　Rolls Royces are very expensive.

　　劳斯莱斯汽车价格昂贵。

　　She has expensive tastes (= she likes things that cost a lot of money).

　　她喜欢昂贵的东西。

　　2.Dear也可以表示价格昂贵，高价(costing too much)，指价格高出正常或合理的价格，主要指普通日用品因暂时的供应不足而造成的价格上涨。

　　The food was good but very dear.

　　这儿的饭菜不错，就是太贵。

　　另外，dear还有其他的含义：

　　1.loved or liked very much 亲爱的，心爱的;可爱的

　　She was a very dear friend.

　　她是一位非常亲密的朋友。

　　He was very dear to me.

　　他是我非常亲近的人。

　　2.used at the beginning of a letter to greet the person you are writing to (用于信的开头作问候语)亲爱的，尊敬的

　　3. used in expressions of anger, disappointment, sadness, or surprise 天哪(表示恼怒、失望、伤心、吃惊等)

　　Dear me, it's already 4.30 and I said I'd be home by 5.00!

　　天哪，已经4点半了，我说过我5点前要到家的!

　　Dearie me, what a mess!
