I want to send my best wishes to everyone around the worldcelebrating Chinese New Year. Here in Britain, we’re not justmarking the beginning of the Year of the Fire Monkey, but the growing relationship betweenBritain and China.

　　在全球欢度新春佳节之际，我向大家致以最诚挚的祝福。在英国，这不仅标志着农历猴年的到来，也是英中两国关系不断增强的重要时刻。

　　You can see the bond between our countries shining brightly. In our universities, wherethousands of Chinese people are studying. In our businesses, where bilateral trade has more thandoubled in five years. And in our cities, with more Chinese tourists choosing to visit Britain thanever before.

　　大家可以见证我们熠熠生辉的两国关系。在英国大学中，有成千上万的中国学生求学。在商业领域中，两国双边贸易五年内增长逾一倍;在英国各城市中，越来越多的中国游客前来旅游观光。

　　Last year, it was an honour to welcome President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng to the UK,heralding a golden era in our countries’ relationship. During the State Visit – the first in a decade –we made a huge range of agreements that would bring us even closer together, from moreinvestment and research to better visa arrangements, and this year will be about delivering onthose things.

　　去年，很荣幸欢迎中国国家主席携夫人女士对英国进行国事访问，开启了两国关系的黄金时代。在这十年来的首次国事访问期间，我们达成了众多丰硕成果，让两国关系更加紧密，包括更多投资和研究合作，以及更好的签证政策。今年，我们将具体落实这些成果。

　　Here in Britain, we see the impact people of Chinese origin have, day in, day out. From our highstreets to our hospitals, our schools to our Parliament, the British Chinese community more thanmakes its mark, and never more so than at this time of year.

　　在英国，我们时时刻刻都能感受到华人的影响力。从商街到医院，从学校到议会，华人社区一直带给英国积极的影响力，而今年此刻愈加明显。

　　So, as the lights go up, the parades begin, the music starts and families gather together, let’scelebrate everything we are achieving together, and let me wish you the very best health andhappiness for the New Year.
