新东方：《老友记》第一季中的文化现象

关于《老友记》，抒情的话就不说了，现在很多同学也在利用《老友记》学习新知识、了解文化背景。相信你在看剧的时候一定也遇到了一些倏忽就略过，回看n多遍还是理解不了的点吧。那么以下就来简单地梳理以下。
1.About the altar 祭坛
An altar is any structure upon which offerings such as sacrifices are made for religious purposrs. Altars are usually found at shrines, and they can be located in temples, churches and other places of worship.
剧中第一集“Rachel leaves Barry at the altar”指的应该就是教堂的Altar。
2. Limoges gravy boat 利摩日船型卤肉盘
Limoges: 即利摩日，是法国中西部一城市，位于波尔多东北部。它的陶瓷工业开始于18世纪。18世纪以后成为法国陶瓷器等工艺精品的制作中心。相当于法国的景德镇。
Gravy boat: 船型卤肉盘。
An elongated, boat-shaped pitcher used to serve gravy. A gravy boat usually sits on a matching plate, which is used to catch gravy drips. Sometimes the plate is permanently attached to the pitcher. A matching ladle often accompanies a gravy boat. Also called sauce boat.
3.Mr. Potato Head 土豆头先生
在第一集中瑞秋和大家谈到了她逃婚的原因，她说这是因为她突然发现她的未婚夫巴里医生长得很像“薯头先生(Mr.Potato Head)”，Mr. Potato Head是谁呢?这是在美国家喻户晓的卡通人物。如果大家看过《玩具 总动员(Toy Story)》，就会在里面发现他和他的夫人“薯头太太(Mrs.Potato Head)”叽叽歪歪，经常批评这、批评那的形象。所以，如果是你，你会如何抉择呢?
