"We have been stuck in stinking hot and uncomfortable conditions, feeling unwell, because the camels are coming in and knocking down fences, getting in around the houses and trying to get to water through air conditioners,'' she told the newspaper.
"With the current ongoing dry conditions the large camel threatening the APY communities and infrastructure, camel control is needed."
It says the culls will be conducted in "accordance with the highest standards of animal welfare".“职业枪手将从直升机上开枪射击,有些骆驼的尸体会被留在射杀现场,而那些可以收集到的尸体将被焚烧或掩埋。”
“Professional shooters will hunt the animals from helicopters. Some of the camels will be left where they are killed, but those that are accessible will be burnt or buried,” according to The Australian.
The feral camel population would double every nine years if a pest control plan is not undertaken, National Feral Camel Management Plan claimed. There are believed to be more than 1 million camels in Australia and the country's camel population is growing rapidly.
Sydney University Ecology Professor Chris Dickman said 480 million animals had been killed in New South Wales alone including mammals, birds and reptiles.
