　　Aidan Turner has been set to return for a third season of BBC One drama, Poldark. The BBC confirmed today that 10 new episodes of the Mammoth Screen series will be adapted by Debbie Horsfield from the novels by Winston Graham. A shooting start is imminent with a 2017 airdate eyed. Season 2 is due to air later this year on the flagship channel as well as on Masterpiece in the U.S.

　　Set in 1794, Poldark sees our hero traverse new family, new loves and new battles, as the French revolution casts a shadow over life in Cornwall. Also returning to the drama is Eleanor Tomlinson as Ross Poldark’s wife Demelza. Joining the cast are Midsomer Murders‘ John Nettles, Gabriella Wilde (Endless Love) and Hugh Skinner (W1A), The Guardian noted.

　　Poldark’s first season peaked with 9.4M viewers and gained a big fan following at home and abroad. It also sparked a renewed interest in scything — particularly of the shirtless variety.

　　Mammoth’s Managing Director, Damien Timmer, calls Poldark “a passion project for all of us” and promises the saga of Ross, his friends and enemies “will go to even more thrilling places” in Season 3.

　　The new season will be produced by Roopesh Parekh (The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses) and Michael Ray, and directed by Josh Agnew (Mr Selfridge) and Stephen Woolfenden (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them). Horsfield continues to serve as executive producer alongside Tom Mullens, Karen Thrussell and Timmer for Mammoth Screen, and Elizabeth Kilgarriff for the BBC.
