‘Scandal’: Jake joins Mellie on the ticket as Olivia eyes White House return
Thursday night (May 12), the Season 6 finale of “Scandal,” titled “That’s My Girl,” revealed some jaw dropping secrets while also putting the official teams into play for the upcoming election. While the majority of the episode was spent vetting appropriate vice presidential candidates for both Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) and Cyrus Beene (Jeff Berry), multiple wrenches were thrown into the mix, setting this up for one heck of a mess once the series returns in the fall.
Having President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) speak for her at the Republican Convention proved not to be the easiest choice for Mellie, but in the end, having your ex-husband sell you as the party’s presidential candidate probably wasn’t the easiest thing for Fitzgerald either
Speaking of difficult choices, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) was tasked with helping Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) get out from under the thumb of her father (Joe Morton). While a gun to the head isn’t the ideal threat to face when attempting to bring Ballard on as Mellie’s running mate, things only get more complicated as Cyrus Beene taps Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) to stand by his side on the Democratic side of the aisle.
The student vs. teacher dynamic that Beene presented to Olivia looks to be going down, just not in the way Cyrus initially proposed. One of them is definitely going to be back in the White House once this is all said and done. With a little nudge from Poppa Pope, it looks like Olivia may have put Jake into play, but for all the wrong reasons.
“Scandal” Season 7 returns in the fall
