Why Cersei Is Going to Die on Game of Thrones — and Who Will Kill Her!
We know it's coming: Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) is going to die... And if what we know about the current season of HBO's show is true, it may happen before the year is out!
Back in Game of Thrones' fifth season premiere, a young Cersei received the prophecy that she would have three children with golden crowns and golden shrouds. What the show left out from the prediction (originally featured in George R.R. Martin's A Feast for Crows) is that the valonqar, which is High Valyrian for little brother, "shall wrap his hands about [Cersei's] pale white throat and choke the life from [her]."
Although showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have had no problem deviating from Martin's books in the past, it would be a pretty massive detour if they ignored Cersei's doomed fate altogether. And lest you forget, the show conveniently reminded viewers of the prophecy during the Season 6 premiere.
So while Benioff and Weiss might not want to spell it out to viewers that Cersei's time with us is limited, they're definitely hinting that the prediction will come into play this year.
But who's the valonqar? Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) is the most obvious option, but he's not the only one! We break down the three most popular theories -- and their likelihood of coming true -- in the video above.
Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
