The episode, called "The Red Woman," was written by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and directed by Jeremy Podeswa, who previously helmed the fifth and sixth episodes of season five, "Kill the Boy" and "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken."A description of season six, per the premium cabler: "Following the shocking developments at the conclusion of season five, including Jon Snow’s bloody fate at the hands of Castle Black mutineers, Daenerys’ near-demise at the fighting pits of Meereen and Cersei’s public humiliation in the streets of King’s Landing, survivors from all parts of Westeros and Essos regroup to press forward, inexorably, towards their uncertain individual fates. Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival, while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in the east, west, north and south."

　　As for "The Red Woman," the episode's description reads: "Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again." The first sentence is fairly straightforward; few argue against the notion that Kit Harington's Lord Commander of the Night's Watch is actually dead, but instead hold that he will come back to life. The notion is only heightened when paired with the episode's title, as many fans believe Melisandre (Carice van Houten) — very likely the red woman in question — will be the one who brings Jon back from the dead.

　　Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) meeting "a strong man" almost certainly speaks to the new Dothraki warriors she's set to encounter in the upcoming season, even if book fans would prefer to read "strong" in the Belwas sense of the word. As for Cersei (Lena Headey), don't expect any Melisandre miracles or Mountainous resurrections when she "sees her daughter again." Myrcella, like so many other Lannisters wrapped in Baratheon banners, is dead and gone.
