　　Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) finally became intimate on "The Big Bang Theory" and it could not have been any more perfect. It was a heartwarming holiday present for Shamy fans, with a dash of "Star Wars" thrown in, because -- of course.

　　From Sheldon admitting to Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) that he struggles with intimacy -- "Intimacy in any form has been challenging for me, but I'd like to show her how important she is and it feels like now might be the right time" -- to Amy's initial excitement and then awkward nervousness, to the actual act of making love, which goes surprisingly well and will now be an annual occurrence on Amy's birthday, the episode was a gem from start to finish.

　　Sheldon's care and concern for Amy when they finally get to the big moment was enough to choke up even the most cynical viewer. It may seem like Sheldon hasn't changed much from when the series began, but he really has and his interactions with Amy show just how much. The producing team made fans wait a long time for this moment, but it's so nice that they did. It was as special for the audience as it was for the characters.

　　There was also a hilarious and quintessential "Big Bang Theory" juxtaposition of the guys going to see "Star Wars" while Sheldon was romancing Amy, which allowed for a couple great cameos by Wil Wheaton as himself and Bob Newhart as Professor Proton. Add in Penny's reaction of breaking her wine glass when Sheldon tells her what he wants to give Amy for her birthday, which was a laugh-out-loud visual gag, and you've got one of the best "Big Bang Theory" episodes of the entire series.

　　Hats off to "The Big Bang Theory" writers and Parsons and Bialik's performances -- they absolutely nailed Sheldon and Amy's first time. The Shamy arc has been running at a high level since the Season 8 finale last May and this was the perfect capstone. Fans will be eagerly anticipating the return of the show in 2016.
