The first half of the “The Flash”-“Arrow” crossover has come to its epic conclusion with a reveal that Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) may get to know his son.
The child’s mother (Anna Hopkins), who was never named on “Arrow,” was seen in a Season 1 episode of “The Flash,” briefly crossing paths with Oliver. Before that, she was a fling he had back in 2007, while dating Laurel (Katie Cassidy).
When it was revealed he’d gotten her pregnant, Oliver’s mother gave her $1 million to tell him she’d lost the baby and leave forever.
Now, nearly a decade later, it looks like she’s a freight train making her way back into Oliver’s life. The only question is whether or not the young boy Olly sees in Jitters is his son — and who that son is.
If the child is Oliver’s, it could complicate matters quite a bit — with his mayoral bid, his Green Arrow shenanigans and, of course, with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). It would connect to Green Arrow history, though.
In the comics, Oliver has an affair with a woman named Sandra Hawke at one point. The illegitimate child they have together — Connor Hawke — eventually succeeds his father as the Green Arrow.
Still, that doesn’t mean this kid is Oliver’s. It’s been many years since he’s seen this woman and she could have easily had another child in that time. Should that be the case though, does that mean Oliver does have a child out there somewhere?
The possibility opens up many avenues for the show and all of them are dangerous. Of course, one of the more pressing ones is the issue of Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough). He clearly has some issues with Oliver — and the Green Arrow — and would definitely not be above using the child as a weakness to get to his enemy.
One thing is for sure, the reintroduction of the unnamed woman and her mystery son is a pretty brilliant stroke of long-term storytelling.
Speaking to Zap2it and other media outlets at a screening of the crossover event, “The Flash” and “Arrow” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg reveals bringing her back into the fold was in the plan all along.
As for where the story goes from here, the “Arrow” half of the crossover premieres Wednesday (Dec. 2) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
