　　If you're a reader of the novels that Game of Thrones is based on and you're worried about how they'll end, you may not be completely unjustified.

　　In a discussion with Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism on Wednesday, George R.R. Martin reflected on his career, the state of science fiction, and hinted at what the end of the novel series that inspired HBO's Emmy-winning show could look like.

　　"I think you need to have some hope," he said, according to Vulture, on bringing such a lengthy saga to a close. Though, it may not be all sunshine and rainbows in Westeros when that end arrives. "We all yearn for happy endings in a sense. Myself, I'm attracted to the bittersweet ending.

　　Could Game of Thrones be returning later next year?

　　"People ask me how Game of Thrones is gonna end, and I'm not gonna tell them... but I always say to expect something bittersweet in the end, like [J.R.R. Tolkien]. I think Tolkien did this brilliantly. I didn't understand that when I was a kid - when I read Return of the King," he said, noting that it's too simple and unrealistic to tie up a quest with a perfect bow. Says the man who gave us the traumatic Red Wedding.

　　He also assured that HBO's Game of Thrones series is "not going to change what the books are," despite the fact that the show has already caught up to where he is in penning the novels. How do you think Game of Thrones should end?
