第5季“美国恐怖故事”中的塞尔西酒店与科尔特斯酒店连环杀手的真实历史其实在现实生活中发生过。但参照福尔摩斯的真实数据，也就是演出的前几集电影中的许多典故。
最显特的视觉灵感，就是本季的“亮点”，斯坦利库布里克的怪诞的进入恐怖经典。随即，在科尔特斯大厅的地毯上唤起了眺望旅馆相似的六边形图案，像深秋的颜色一样。
Much has been made of the many real-life connections between Season 5 of “American Horror Story” and the actual history of serial killers in the Hotel Cecil versus “AHS” Hotel Cortez. But alongside references to real figures like H.H. Holmes, there are just as many allusions to films in the show’s first few episodes.The most overt visual inspiration this season is “The Shining,” Stanley Kubrick’s eerie entry into the horror canon. Immediately, the carpeting in the lobby of the Cortez evokes the similar hexagonal pattern in the Overlook Hotel, as do the deep autumnal colors.
