George R.R. Martin’s New Show Promises Less Dragons, More Werewolves

　　马丁老爷子对新剧的承诺：龙少点儿、狼人多点儿

　　马丁老爷子除了《权利的游戏》为全球所熟知外，他还写了很多其他的剧。他正要提点下我们他的新剧。笔者已经宣布Cinemax有意向选择他的另外一个故事——《皮肤交易》。

　　马丁在自己个个人博客上宣布了这一消息，确认Cinemax(HBO的姐妹公司)已经预定下这个脚本了。这个脚本是在原来的小说上改编的。原著虽然没有龙这个庞大的生物来助阵，但是有相当多的狼人。《皮肤贸易》是一本发表于19世界90年代的惊悚故事的一部分。和《夜景》一样，遵循他大量有关狼人突袭的个人研究。由于初稿已经发布了，这本小说作为最佳小说也被多次印刷出版，更是在1989年获得了最佳世界奇幻小说。当然他也被改变成了连环漫画，就像看图说故事的那种小说。

　　据报道，对该电影的改编已经有一段时间了。马丁爷爷之前应用的兴盛于1991年的理念没有成功。但是作者还是在故事情节以及编剧上看到了潜在的希望。“我一直把Willie Flambeaux和Randi Wade演得当做电视剧(或者是故事片)来看”。现今，这个故事或许正在经历着第二次的大改造。

　　和书中相同，Cinemax将把这个特工故事改编成一部电视剧，而这个特工碰巧是狼人，他和他的朋友，一个私人侦探，一起发现了一系列可怕的谋杀背后隐藏的不可告人的秘密，剧情设定在一个凋败的工业城市里。Kalinda Vazquez将接手撰写该剧本并制片，他的代表作有我们熟知的《越狱》和《童话镇》。希望他们最终能够成功。

　　据马丁爷爷对他做出这个选择的解释是，Vazquez击败了十来个其他电视编剧。“……Kalinda改编的故事和人物让我惊到了。她真的很喜爱这个故事和里面的语言，她似乎就像Willie和Randi的附体。并且她选择Cinemax是我听过的最有名和专业的。”

　　还有其他的一些很明显的疑惑，马丁爷爷特别的出来澄清，他本人将不会参与编写。但是他也暗示了，他正忙于另外一部剧《凛冬的寒风》。“……我很喜爱写脚本，也喜爱这些脚本拍出来的影片。这些虚拟的故事不会在生活中真实上演。我已经完成了这个脚本的创作。你们懂得，其中的一本”马丁爷爷这么说道。

　　当然《皮肤的贸易》还没有完成。就像马丁爷爷说的那样，“如果Cinemax台喜欢这个脚本，我们就写对了。如果他们喜欢这个故事改编的剧本，谁知道呢，一切都有可能，我们说不定能拍摄影片上映呢”。中途我们不得不稍作停顿，来检测下是否距离我们的期许还有些距离。同时《权力的游戏》粉丝也可以轻松的获知《凛冽的寒风》即将要来了……，当然还有，狼人来了。

　　Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesGeorge R.R. Martin has plenty more works under his belt than just Game of Thrones and he’s reminding us of that with his next project. The author has just announced that Cinemax has optioned the rights to another one of his stories, The Skin Trade.

　　Martin announced the news himself on his blog, confirming that Cinemax (HBO’s sister company) has already ordered a pilot script based on the fictional tale, which, while lacking in dragons, features more than its fair share of werewolves. The Skin Trade was originally published in the 1980s as part of the horror anthology, Night Vision, and follows a private detective as he investigates various werewolf attacks. Since its initial release, the story has been reprinted as a standalone novella several times and has also won the 1989 World Fantasy Award for Best Novella. It’s also been adapted into a comic book series, as well as a graphic novel.

　　The screen adaptation has reportedly been in the works for quite some time. Martin previously pitched the idea to various forums back in 1991, to no avail. But the author continued to see on-camera potential in the story, writing, “I have always thought there was a TV series (or maybe a feature film) in Willie Flambeaux and Randi Wade.” Now, the project may be getting a second shot.

　　Similarly to the book, Cinemax’s adaptation will chronicle the story of a collections agent who happens to be a werewolf and his friend, a private investigator. They discover a dark secret behind a series of grisly murders in their decaying industrial city. Kalinda Vazquez, whose previous credits include work on Prison Break and Once Upon a Time, has been tapped to handle the adaptation, script the pilot, and produce the show, should it eventually get green-lit.

　　According to Martin, Vazquez beat out close to a dozen other TV writers for the gig. “…Kalinda’s take on the story and the characters blew me away. She loves the story and the world, and really seems to get Willie and Randi, and her pitch to Cinemax was one of the most polished and professional I’ve ever heard,” he said of the choice.

　　For those wondering the obvious question, Martin specifically clarified that he himself wouldn’t be able to do any writing for the show. But as he pointed out, he’s busy with a certain other little project called The Winds of Winter. “… [W]hile I would have loved to write the script and run the show myself, that was never really in the cards,” he wrote. “I have this book to finish. You know the one.”

　　The Skin Trade isn’t a done deal yet. As Martin put it, “If [Cinemax] likes the script, we’ll shoot a pilot, and if they like that, hey, who knows, maybe we’ll get a series on the air.” We’ll have to stay tuned to see if the show makes it that far. In the meantime, Game of Thrones fans can rest easy knowing that The Winds of Winter is coming…and apparently, so are the werewolves.
