Shocking news for "Vampire Diaries" fans -- star Nina Dobrev is leaving at the end of the current season. The star broke the news on Instagram, telling her followers and fans that she just wrapped with the CW drama and that it was a goodbye party.

　　"I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six-season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," writes Dobrev. "I was a human, a vampire, adoppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there's still so much more to come before the season finale in May.

　　Dobrev goes on to tease the excitement forthcoming on the show and says that her fans will get to hear all about her final experiences as the season comes to a close. She ends by thanking her fans, telling them to fasten their seatbelts for what is to come in the rest of the season.

　　How Elena will exit the show is, of course, a mystery for fans to uncover over the final five episodes. As for the future of the show, it has been renewed for a seventh season, so the show will carry on without her, which is confirmed in a statement to Zap2it from executive producer Julie Plec.
