China Central Television is coming under pressure to involve apopular Chinese actor in this year’s Spring Festival gala, with theinternet demanding the man who is best known as the MonkeyKing be a part of this year’s event.

　　Ask most people in China, and they’ll say there’s nobody betterthan Liu Xiao Ling Tong when it comes to playing the fictional superhero - the Monkey King or SunWokong.

　　问及谁猴王孙悟空的最佳扮演者时，中国大部分人会毫不犹豫地说是六小龄童。

　　"He is a senior actor. In my heart, the Monkey King played by him is irreplaceable."

　　“六小龄童是个资深演员，他表演的猴王形象无可替代。”

　　"He is skilled and experienced when it comes to the performance. I really hope he can appearagain."

　　“六小龄童演艺精湛，经验丰富。我希望他能够再次登上春晚舞台。”

　　Liu Xiao Ling Tong is the stage name of Zhang Jinlai. He rose to fame after starring as Sun Wukongin the 1986 television adaptation of the classic Chinese tale "Journey to the West."

　　六小龄童是演员章金莱的艺名。他拍摄过1986年的《西游记》，因扮演孙悟空一角色而走红。

　　The 25-episode fantasy series, complete with somewhat crude special effects of the day, continuesto be repeated on Chinese television every summer.

　　1986年版的25集电视剧因当时技术限制，整体效果稍有粗糙，但至今每年暑假这部电视剧仍在重播。

　　As such, most fully expected Zhang would be involved in the forthcoming Spring Festival gala, asthis coming lunar year is the Year of the Monkey.

　　所以，很多人热切期盼章金莱能够出现在即将到来的猴年春晚舞台上再现经典。

　　However, many have been taken aback by word he has been invited to the "opera show," acompanion event to the Spring Festival gala which has a much lower viewership.

　　然而，据说六小龄童已经受邀参演并不需要动作表演的“歌剧表演”，听到这个消息，很多人表示很惊讶。

　　This has led to speculation he will not be part of the Gala, which has spawned an avalanche ofcriticism against the decision-makers at CCTV.

　　这导致大众猜测六小龄童将不会参加春晚，引发大众对央视的愤怒指责。

　　Many are suggesting they will boycott the show if Zhang fails to appear.More than a million peoplehave called for Zhang’s appearance on the Gala’s official Weibo account.

　　很多人说如果章金莱不参加春晚演出，他们将不看春晚。100多万网民在春晚官方微博中呼吁六小龄童参演春晚。

　　The program’s director has been forced to shut down comments on his Weibo page afterreceiving more than 2 million similar requests. So far, CCTV has yet to respond to the situation.

　　收到200多万条类似的请求之后，春晚节目组被迫关闭了其官方微博。

　　However, the actor himself has responded. A humble Zhang Jinlai says the annual Spring FestivalGala is more than just one man.

　　然而演员章金莱本人对此事做了回应。章金莱谦卑地说，春晚不是为一个人设立的。

　　"I’ve noticed that discussions over this have heated up on the internet. But from my perspective,there is nothing to regret, no matter whether I will perform in the show. The most important thingis whether the audience will be entertained. It’s really an honor for me and my family to get praisefor the monkey king roles we have played."

　　“我看到了这件事在网络上引发的激烈讨论。但从我个人角度而言，不管能否上春晚，我都不会感到遗憾。最重要的是观众能够得到快乐。因演孙悟空这一角色而备受称赞这是我的荣誉，也是我们整个家族的荣誉。”

　　Zhang Jinlai does say he will be ready to perform on the Gala if asked. But if he doesn’t, he says hiswork as an actor will not be affected.

　　章金莱并没有谈及如果央视春晚邀请他参演，他是否愿意参演。但是如果没有收到春晚邀约，他说他作为演员的身份并不会收到影响。

　　"I always think I’m one of the luckiest actors in China since the TV series Journey to the West ispopular with such a large group of audiences. The Monkey King is persevering, positive andoptimistic, and represents the spirit of our nation. I have many plans for this year and will havemany new roles to play."

　　Numerous actors have played the famed Monkey King, including Donnie Yen who starred in the2014 film "The Monkey," as well as Aaron Kwok in the upcoming film "The Monkey King 2," as wellas Huang Bo in "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons."

　　无数演员曾扮演过孙悟空一角色，例如甄子丹于2014年《西游记之大闹天宫》，郭富城即将上映的电影《西游记之孙悟空三打白骨精》以及黄渤《西游.降魔篇》。

　　However, Liu Xiao Ling Tong is still the best known.

　　He has previously participated in the annual CCTV gala three times, including the previous editionto bring in the Year of Monkey in 2004.
